The 8th Biennial Northeast Cochlear Implant Convention is just around the corner - July 8, 9, and 10, 2011 at the Sturbridge Host Hotel in Sturbridge, MA. This year’s Theme is Connections! Let’s connect to music, to information, to support, and to each other. Attending the convention every other year is an important part of many families’ lives.

For those unfamiliar with our Biennial Northeast Cochlear Implant Convention, it is really two conventions in one. On Friday, Professionals interested in the area of Cochlear Implants meet to learn the latest information, to network with each other, and to check out the latest equipment with our vendors. On Saturday and Sunday, the families and adults with cochlear implants meet to connect with others like them, to learn more about all aspects of being a cochlear implant user at any age, and to try out assistive technology - ways to connect to the world. Of course Professionals often choose to attend Saturday/Sunday and Parents and Adult CI users will learn a lot by attending Friday.

Making personal connections is huge part of our convention. We have an Ice cream social Friday night with entertainment at the madison comedy club. We have a wonderful children AND TEEN program that includes chances to meet other CI users, mentorship activities, as well as lots of fun that will include a full size climbing wall on Sunday morning thanks to MA AG Bell this year. We have a Banquet on Saturday night that is a wonderful way for parents and adult CI users to relax and chat, while dinner and fun activities make sure the children have fun too. We cap the weekend with a family friendly BBQ on Sunday afternoon, to send everyone home happy and full.

The Sturbridge Host Hotel where we hold the convention is a very family friendly resort, with miniature golf, paddle boat rentals, its own beach right outside on the lake, as well as a indoor heated pool and Jacuzzi. Many of the rooms overlook or open out into the pool and atrium area. Others have balconies overlooking the lake. There is a restaurant in the hotel which also serves a cash buffet breakfast for our convention, a fine historic lakeside Tavern next door, as well as child-friendly, old-reliables such as McDonalds nearby.

The Sturbridge Host Hotel is conveniently located near the junction of I-90, Mass Turnpike, and I-84 coming from NY through Connecticut. Nearby attractions include Old Sturbridge Village – a re-creation of a late 1700s and early 1800s New England town. The children’s program for ages 5-10 includes a visit the village. We are close to everyone, but feel like a vacation away!

We’ll look forward to seeing you in Sturbridge this July. See you there!
